Monte Antico Toscana IGP

Italy

A blend rooted in Tuscany’s rich viticultural landscape, the wine draws from vineyards in Maremma, Colline Pisane, Colli Fiorentini, and Chianti, where calcareous clay and galestro soils provide depth and minerality. The grapes are vinified separately before maturing in a combination of Slavonian and French oak, with a portion aged in barriques to enhance complexity and texture. This aging regimen results in a wine that is both structured and expressive, with layers of nuance unfolding over time.

Monte Antico, translating to “Ancient Mountain,” is a wine crafted by Neil and Maria Empson, esteemed importers with a profound passion for Tuscany. Established in 1977, the Monte Antico label serves as their homage to the region’s rich winemaking heritage. Collaborating with renowned winemaker Franco Bernabei, they have created a wine that encapsulates the essence of Tuscany’s terroir.

Tasting notes

Displaying a deep ruby-red hue with garnet highlights, the aromatics reveal an enticing mix of black cherry, plum, and licorice, underscored by hints of leather and violet. The palate is medium to full-bodied, offering ripe fruit framed by supple tannins and well-integrated acidity. Notes of vanilla and spice add dimension, leading to a lingering and harmonious finish.
