Tips for the host

How many glasses do you get from a bottle?

A standard 750 ml bottle gives five 150 ml glasses. If you pour less (e.g. 125 ml for sparkling wine) you get six glasses.

Should I buy more white wine or red wine?

In summer and with canapés, you go through more white wine and rosé. In winter and with dinner, it's usually 50–60% red wine. The calculator takes this into account.

What about alcohol-free options?

Allow 1–2 litres of water, soft drinks or juice per guest, and have good alcohol-free options available. It lifts the party and is essential for designated drivers.

Can I return unused wine?

Yes. Vínbúðin accepts unused, unopened bottles within the stated deadline. So it's always better to buy a few more bottles than too few.
