Accessibility statement

Last updated: 17 July 2026

AMKA wants amka.is to work for everyone, regardless of disability, technology or circumstance. We aim for the site to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, the international standard for digital accessibility. This statement explains what that means and how to let us know if anything gets in your way.

Our commitment

We treat an accessible website as a natural part of good service. Accessibility is not an afterthought but kept in mind as the site is built and updated, and we work on it steadily.

The standard we target

We target WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) at level AA. That standard rests on four principles: content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. It is the same benchmark European accessibility legislation and the European standard EN 301 549 build on.

What we do

The site is built on semantic HTML so screen readers and other assistive technology get the correct meaning. It can be navigated with a keyboard, headings follow a logical order, and images carry text alternatives where relevant.

We pay attention to legibility: sufficiently strong colour contrast, text that can be enlarged without the layout breaking, and a site that works equally on a phone, tablet and computer.

Known limitations

Despite this work, some content may still not fully meet our benchmark. Text alternatives for older images can be limited, and content on external sites we link to — such as Vínbúðin — is outside our control. If you run into a barrier that is not listed here, we would very much like to hear about it.

Feedback and help

If you run into anything that stops you using the site — or need content from the site in another, more accessible format — please get in touch. Describe the problem and where on the site it came up, so we can respond faster. We take every report seriously and respond as quickly as we can.

Updates

We update this statement as the site evolves and its accessibility improves. The latest version is always published here, with the date at the top.
