Production
Robert Weil, a distinguished estate in Germany’s Rheingau region, is celebrated for its exceptional Rieslings. The Kiedrich Gräfenberg vineyard, known for its steep slopes and slate-rich soils, provides an ideal terroir for producing wines of remarkable depth and minerality. The 2020 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewächs (GG) exemplifies the estate’s dedication to crafting wines that balance intensity with elegance. Vinified entirely in large, partially renewed oak casks, this wine showcases the harmonious integration of fruit purity and subtle oak influence. The 2020 vintage benefited from favorable conditions, resulting in a wine that is both expressive and refined.
Tasting notes
Pale straw in color, this wine offers a deep, pure, and refined bouquet that is both intense and complex. On the palate, it is very elegant, refined, and balanced, with a sweeter or rounder taste than the Turmberg, revealing a similar saline vibrancy. The richer and rounder sensation might be due to the loess-loam components of the Gräfenberg phyllite terroir compared to the shallower terroir of the Turmberg. The finish is bracing, with persistent lemon and stone elements.
