Muscat provides floral aromatics and ripe stone fruit, while Gewürztraminer adds spice, richness, and depth. The grapes come from organic vineyards, where warm days and cool nights ensure balanced ripeness and acidity. Skin-contact fermentation extracts tannins and phenolics, giving the wine a textured mouthfeel and layered character.

Production

Oveja Naranja is an organic orange wine from Bodegas Fontana, a producer known for innovative Spanish winemaking. Based in Castilla-La Mancha, the estate follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, letting the wine reflect its terroir. This cuvée blends Muscat and Gewürztraminer, two aromatic varieties that contribute floral and spice-driven complexity. Unlike standard white wines, the juice remains in contact with the skins for six months, deepening texture and imparting an amber hue. This ancient technique, common in Georgian and Friulian winemaking, enhances structure and complexity. After fermentation, the wine is left unfiltered, preserving its natural integrity and highlighting the interplay of fruit, tannin, and acidity.

Tasting notes

Golden-orange in hue, the nose delivers dried apricot, orange peel, jasmine, and honey, with touches of ginger and white pepper. The palate is structured yet fresh, featuring ripe peach, citrus zest, and herbal notes, framed by bright acidity and gentle tannins that extend through the finish.
